Locke & Key season 2:

Locke & Key season 2 Review

Locke & Key is a Netflix original series based on the comic book series of the same name. The series follows the Locke family who moves into their ancestor's estate after the father is killed in a strange circumstances. The kids soon discover keys hidden throughout the house that grant magical abilities to those who find them.

Season 2 improves on many of the shortcomings of season 1:

Faster paced storytelling: The plot moves at a much faster pace in season 2, with fewer filler episodes. The story wastes little time getting into the main arcs.

Improved character development: The Locke children, especially Bode and Kinsey, see meaningful development of their personalities and abilities. We learn more about their struggles and motivations.

Stronger villain: Dodge, the main villain this season, is much more sinister, manipulative and cunning compared to the underdeveloped villain in season 1. The tension and stakes feel higher.

Fewer plot holes: The plot is more tightly woven together with fewer inconsistencies compared to season 1. Things make more sense as the season progresses.

More surprises: The twists and reveals this season feel fresher and more surprising. They subvert expectations in an intriguing way.

However, some issues remain:

Predictable endings: Though the buildup to the climaxes is often good, the actual endings to the main arcs tend to be predictable and cliched.

Pacing dips: Though the pacing is improved overall, it still dips in a few episodes with some filler content.

Undeveloped side characters: Side characters like Tyler and Eden remain underdeveloped and one-dimensional.

Conclusion

Locke & Key season 2 fixes many of the issues that plagued season 1. The storytelling is tighter, the pacing is faster, and the characters see more development. The villain is stronger and the plot has fewer holes. However, the endings still feel cliched at times and some side characters remain flat.

If you were disappointed by season 1 but still interested in the premise, season 2 is definitely worth watching as Netflix finds its stride with this story. Fans of supernatural dramas, young adult fiction and nostalgic vibes will likely enjoy this improved second season of Locke & Key.
