There’s no need to be a mutant to enjoy the X-Men movies. In fact, whether you’re a fan of the comics or just love a good action movie, these films are sure to please. Here’s a look at all nine X-Men movies so far – and what you can expect from the latest one, Dark Phoenix.
X-Men (2000)
This first film introduces us to Professor Charles Xavier and his team of superpowered mutants known as the X-Men. They must stop Magneto from using his powers to take over the world. This is where we meet some of our favorite characters including Wolverine, Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Storm.
X2: X-Men United (2003)
In this sequel, Magneto hatches another plan – this time involving giant robots called Sentinels that are programmed to destroy all mutants. The X-Men must once again work together in order to save their fellow mutants and humankind as a whole. This film features some great fight scenes between the Sentinels and various mutants including Nightcrawler and Colossus. It also introduces fan favorite character Deadpool!
Bryan Singer returns as director for this installment which was released in 2003 .
The Last Stand (2006) Bryan Singer left after directing two films so Brett Ratner took over for this one which was not well received by fans or critics . Some say it's because Ratner changed too much from what Singer had set up while others blame script problems . The main complaint seems to be that there were too many characters with not enough development which resulted in an unsatisfying ending .
However , if you're just looking for an enjoyable popcorn flick then it might be worth watching on Netflix or DVD sometime .
Origins: Wolverine (2009) James Mangold directed this prequel about how Logan became Wolverine aka Weapon XI under Stryker's orders before escaping him .. It wasn't well received either but has its moments especially when Hugh Jackman is on screen doing what he does best .. Plus , Liev Schrieber makes an appearance as Victor Creed / Sabretooth ! Finally something different than your average origin story !
First Class (2011) Matthew Vaughn directed & co - wrote with Jane Goldman who also wrote Kick - Ass 1 & 2 making her quite comfortable with comic book adaptations at this point .. This takes place in 1962 during height of cold war paranoia with US & USSR
